Her name means elegance and life full of wrinkles worn with youthful irreverence. Her taste made this interior New York designer a true style icon, her clothing is over the top but never too excessive, so her eccentric style made her one of the most admired women in the world.
Born in 1921 in Queens, after graduating in History of Art, Iris Apfel has worked as an interior designer with Elinor Johnson, and then opened a textile company, the "Old World Weavers" which closed its doors in 1992. From '50 'to '90 Iris was responsible for interior design, personally managing, among other things, some work for the White House to accommodate as many as 9 presidents. Currently the 93 years old woman, the coolest on the planet, occupies her days talking about style and holding lectures around the world; last year Iris was named by the magazine Guardian one of the best dressed women over 50. In 2005 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York dedicated a retrospective titled "Rara Avis (rare bird): the irriverent Iris Apfel": more than 80 suits of her personal collection became an exhibition that after New York shot galleries and museums around the world. The unique taste of Apfel, eclectic mix of true pret a porter and exotic fashion accessories of all kinds, made her irreverence an emblem of taste. The collection is an anthology of all the influences and combinations that flow into her beautiful and creative spirit.
